Research tell us that making friends can be especially difficult for students with significant disabilities, including autism. The Kentucky Peer Support Network Project is helping foster relationships – and enhancing academic engagement – between Kentucky students with and without disabilities, by using Peer Support Arrangements in inclusive classrooms, and Peer Networks beyond the classroom.
The Kentucky Peer Support Network Project and WKEC ASD Cadre is offering a one-day presentation to help schools and district use the POWER OF PEERS in supporting students with significant disabilities. This work session is designed for school and district teams.
1) Understand the building blocks of friendships,
2) Understand how peers can help facilitate engagement, motivation, academic success, and genuine friendships,
3) Learn strategies and resources for implementing Peer Support Arrangements and Peer Networks, and
4) Develop an action plan for their own school/district focused on implementing Peer Networks and Peer Support Arrangements.
