08/05/20 — Training: Putting the FUN in FUNctional Communication

8:30-11:30 Live virtual training

This 3-hour training will begin by answering the question, “What is Functional Communication?” From there participants will be guided through the process of establishing and setting up a student’s functional communication system. We will discuss different types of AAC, selection of devices, and programming vocabulary. Learners will then be introduced to strategies for how, when, and where to teach functional communication, including the principals of aided language stimulation/input and peer mediated instruction and intervention. The session will conclude by discussing how to use functional communication training to address student behaviors and tips for generalization and carryover of skills. NOTE:  It is highly suggested that participants attend in teacher/Para/SLP teams
