These teachers will gain critical information in preparation for their first year of instruction. The topic for this session is Scheduling and Environmental Arrangement for teachers of moderate and severe disabilities.  Coaching and technical support will be provided throughout the school year to address goals set by the participant.

These teachers will gain critical information in preparation for their second or third year of instruction. The topic for this session is Systematic Instruction for teachers of moderate and severe disabilities.  Coaching and technical support will be provided throughout the school year to address goals set by the participant.

Mathematics consultants from KDE will be facilitating a full day of learning and practice around the newly revised Kentucky Academic Standards for Mathematics. Participants will look closely at the architecture of the standards, instructional shifts for consideration, and implications to instruction.

The day will be one of discussion and professional learning, but also putting learning into practice. Participants will be encouraged to bring certain instructional planning items to participate in hands on work as preparation for the upcoming year. Documents may include a unit of study, assignments, texts, or assessments to allow for standards alignment practice and considerations.

Which behavioral strategy should I use for a student that persistently disrupts my class?  This session will train all participants in behavior intervention strategies recommended by the Kentucky State Behavior Task Group.  Participants will leave with the necessary skills to select an appropriate behavior strategy designed to target specific undesirable behaviors.  An online tool designed to match undesirable behaviors to recommended behavior strategies will be presented.  This tool is free to all educators, parents, and administrators.

09/10/19 – Hammer Mathematics PD

Hammer’s Professional Development is a fun and engaging learning experience for educators.  Teachers learn how to effectively teach fractions, measurement and scaling “Hammer-style,” while experiencing the curriculum through the eyes of the student.

This is a FREE session. Math Educators, Instructional Supervisors, Principals and District Instructional Leaders are invited.

Agenda:

8:30 a.m.   Fractions/The Big Inch (Lessons 1-10) – A brief overview on how to navigate the online curriculum, how the curriculum is designed, how to use The Big Inch to solve fractions problems, and how to use The Big Inch App.

11:30 am – 12:15 pm  LUNCH (on your own) 

12:15 pm – 2:00 pm  Measurement (Lessons 11-14) – Teachers learn how to solve area and perimeter “Hammer-style.”

2:00 pm – 3:30 pm  Architectural Design (House Layout/Scaling) – Teachers go outside and stake out the perimeter of a house then draw it to 1/4″ scale.
