“Expanding into these counties gives us the opportunity to serve more Kentuckians and partner with more local organizations, employers, and families to meet real community needs,” said Tina Peery, Director of WKEC Adult Education. “We look forward to working with local leaders to build brighter futures through education.”
What WKEC Adult Education Offers
Integrated Education and Training (IET):
IET programs allow adult learners to build academic skills—like reading, writing, and math—while simultaneously earning credentials in high-demand career fields. Participants receive contextualized instruction that directly relates to their chosen career path (such as education, cybersecurity, manufacturing, or construction) and may complete industry certifications while improving employability skills. IET programs are a powerful way for students to learn and earn at the same time, accelerating their path to workforce success.Workplace Literacy (WPL):
Workplace Literacy services are customized training programs developed in partnership with local employers to meet the specific needs of their workforce. These programs focus on enhancing essential skills like communication, teamwork, critical thinking, digital literacy, and job-specific competencies. Whether on-site or in the classroom, WPL services help employees advance and businesses stay competitive—all at no cost to participants or employers.Additional Services Include:
GED Preparation: One-on-one and small group support to help students pass the GED exam in reading, math, science, and social studies.
College Preparation: Guidance and instruction for those planning to enroll in college or technical training.
English Language (EL) Instruction: Classes for non-native English speakers to improve language skills for daily life, work, and citizenship.
Family Literacy: Programs that engage both parents and children to build literacy skills and encourage lifelong learning.
GED and Essential Skills in Corrections: Instruction for incarcerated individuals to support education, personal growth, and successful reentry into the workforce and community.
All services are free of charge and available in-person and online, offering flexibility to meet the needs of busy adults.
